Mimic Christ

Ephesians 5:1-4

1st Live a lifestyle of love. (vss. 1-2)

We need to order our daily lives around the love of God.

Christ’s life was characterized by a love offering.

Our life is to be a daily sacrifice that is well-pleasing to God.

2nd We are to live a life of purity. (vss. 3-4)

This life of purity will have no hint of sexual immorality.

3rd We are not to be impure in our speech.

Paul wrote, “It’s improper for God’s holy people.” (vs. 3 NIV)

1 Peter 2:9 NIV “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Note verse 4.  Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

Obscenity is so contrary to anything that is pure.

Notice in verse 4 “Course joking”

Course jesting/joking involving vulgar expressions and indecent content.

This is out of place with someone who should be imitating Christ in their walk of grace.

4th  Be thankful for your daily salvation walk.

Remember to give God praise for his saving grace that took you out of your life of sin.

A thankfulness heart will reveal itself in the way you walk and talk.

Every one of us can still feel the weight and guilt of our past sins.

That is why it is important that we be reminded to constantly reflect upon God’s grace and love.

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.” (Psa. 19:14 NIV)
