Working Power

Ephesians 1:20-23

Absolute power

Unchallengeable power

Endless power

Mankind fights and dies for power.

Thought: Often people mistake Jesus’ humility as a lack of power.

  • Humility is power under control

In his power, sovereign power, he humbled himself and became a man in order to restore our broken relationship with him

  • Phil. 2:6-11 NIV

“What did the power of God do to and for Jesus, and what affect did it have on us?”

God’s power was exerted in Christ.

  • God took a dead body and energized it
  • An energy that creates
  1. Exceeding great power
  • Unlimited
  1. Working power
  • Velocity of God’s sovereign power
  1. Strength
  • Mighty deeds
  1. Mighty power
  • Supernatural power

God infused Jesus’ body with such energy and force that it caused him to rise from the dead.

That same energy seated him at the right hand of God in heaven.

  • Note: Hebrews 10:11-12 NIV
    • In the heavenly realms
      • Heb. 9:24 NIV
    • Far above all rule and authority (holy angels or demons)
      • Col. 2:13-15 NIV
    • Power or dominion
      • Angelic powers
        • Romans 8:38-39 NIV
    • Every title ever given
      • You name it, Jesus is above it
        • Above Kings; Rulers; Authorities; Powers of any kind; any Name

That is why he is called the Sovereign Lord.

    • His omniscience
      • Total knowledge
  • 1 John 3:20 NIV
  • His omnipotence
    • Gen. 1:3; Psa. 33:6; Hebrews 1:3 NIV
  • His omnipresence
    • Psa. 139:1-16 NIV

Thought: By what right or authority can we say these about Jesus?

Note: vss. 22-23

God placed:

  • To put under
  • Absolute dominion given to Jesus by God
    • Sovereign rule

Note: Hebrews 2:5-9 NIV

God placed and appointed Jesus as head of all things.

  • Even us as the body of Christ

The church is the fullness of Christ here on this earth.

  • Col. 3:15-17 NIV

3 take a ways today.

  1. God’s sovereign power raised Jesus from the dead
  2. Jesus’ position is in heaven where he has power over everything
  3. Christ is the head, authority over the body – the church
  • That means we are to be in submission to him
