What is baptism? And why do it?

John the Baptizer required that everyone repent and be baptized.
- His was to prepare your life for the coming of the Messiah/kingdom of God

Even Jesus taught his way of being baptized.
Note: Matthew 28:19-20 NIV
1st Make them into a disciple of Christ
- Follow him, his ways and his teachings
2nd Baptize them

- Sign of relationship with the Rabbi, Jesus
- Showing of complete commitment to his ways
- Sign of your death in Christ
- Note: Romans 6:4-10 ERV
- Shows that we have rising to life in Christ
3rd The proclamation of it is done in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- Shows the wonder of our unity with the Godhead
- Jesus is teaching a complete union between us and God himself
- All the fulness of God is now dwelling within us
- Baptism shows the unity of the believer with the oneness of God
4th Teach them the ways of truth, the teachings of Christ
- Our new relationship with the Messiah
- You have died to sin
- You have risen to new life
- Your relationship with God is complete
- The death of your old self is sure and this new life is now yours to live
- You are no longer a slave to sin, you are now free to live for Jesus
This wonderful act, your baptism, shows a public profession of your faith in Jesus, the true Messiah.
Your baptism shows your relationship with One who was prophesied to come.
